So over the past few weeks there has been much discussion and concern for the future of RL4WD parent organization. It's time to go public with this because I have not had any positive results individually or with private group discussions.

What we have is a board of directors who have all been on the board well beyond their two year term limits. No one has been nominated or volunteered to take over these positions. Now 3 of the 4 Board members have resigned for their own reasons. I am the only one left and I took this position with the understanding I would do what I could. I have three businesses to run, I am single and have to do my own laundry, cooking, home work and yard work as well as fight three cancers at the same time. I am ready to leave as well I cant do it alone no one can! Ryan Harden has done an incredible job uniting and organizing people in the OHV community. He had made more head way and renewed the faith in a unified OHV community, kept trails and parks open and increased awareness of the importance of the trail ambassador program. Ryan has done the best he could do alone and with the help of a few others but he is overwhelmed with RL4WD work as well as his other work and family needs, and has been crying for help at least three years. People often offer to help but no one really has stepped up or committed to the tasks and Ryan has been reluctant to turn things over to anyone knowing very well that in 2 months it would be back in his lap again anyway. Running an organization has many back office tasks and jobs to be done. Just handling the memberships is overwhelming yet he has been doing it. He is burned out and has other personal goals he must attend to in order to take care of his family now.

The RL4WD parent organization is in trouble, we need to look at the amount of work that it needs monthly to function and the finances it needs to function and it becomes clear it cannot be sustained as it has been being handled. We have been relying on one man to handle the processing of memberships, deal with state filings and taxes take care of the website and organizing the individual chapters to further promote trails and the trail ambassador program.

The initial goals of the parent RL4Wd organization have been met and with the individual chapters and or clubs and RL4Wd joining forces with WC4WD we now have a voice in the state and it would seem that the involvement is sincere and the best it has been in the last 30 years. With Each club and chapter now handling their own respective affairs and the intent of RL4WD there is really no longer the need for the parent group. The parent group is only duplication all the things the individual clubs are doing. and it is doing it with out the funds and manpower it needs.

To simply say it, the Parent RL4WD organization is no longer needed. Each chapter can form its own memberships and all memberships are currently WC4WD memberships and moving forward members should just thru their chapters join WC4WD and continue the promotion of the programs and be the voice of 4 wheeling in Wisconsin. WC4WD is making headway in Wisconsin and is responsible to the best interests of the off road community. they will be implementing the same ambassador program goals and the 101 training for new users to the OHV community.

It is my, and others, recommendation to dissolve the parent organization according to the RL4WD bylaws and distribute assets accordingly fully dissolving the organization. We will attempt to voluntarily keep the parent website operating so all groups and chapters will still have a form of inter communication and organization. Some of the website features may be turned off for streamlining it and simplifying it because to be quite frank it has way too many tangents that clutter the main goals but we wont turn anything off without discussions if there are areas people still use or need.

There have been several attempts at discussing and or reorganizing but every time either there are conflicts or we come to the same conclusion there is not any positive reason we can see to further the need to keep the parent organization alive and operating. RL4WD has met its goals and it has fostered the individual user groups chapter (groups) and new clubs are forming to take charge of regional trail concerns all promoting the Trail Ambassador program which will remain as it is itself a separate entity. WC4WD has made a commitment to the overall 4WD community and will carry the torch forward to continue the needs of the OHV community with the state voice RL4Wd never had. Supporting WC4WD and the Local chapters or clubs will gain the traction in Wisconsin that was started by RL4WD.

I am putting this out there for all to see and now give each of you the option to discuss this amoung yourselves, some have been discussing this for weeks already with no resolutions other than the dissolution I am recommending. If anyone wishes to contest this all we will need to continue the group is a complete new board elected adding at least three new positions for a total of 7 President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Director, and Event Director. The Webmaster is a position that may need to be implemented as well in the future too if we cannot address the needs ourselves on a voluntary basis.

The time is now if there is anyone who wishes to keep RL4WD going but in all fairness there simply is no longer a reason to do so and it takes a tremendous amount of personal time every day week and month of the year to fulfill the needs duplication everything the individual groups can handle. I have set a time line of June 30 2021 to have the complete dissolution completed or sooner if possible in the event no one steps up. I strongly urge everyone to really look at the things I am pointing out because there isn't a need to further the RL4WD parent group. Its time has come and it birthed a child but like all children they grow up and no longer need their parents. We are not at that point in time. If anyone wishes to discuss this with me please email me and be patient because I have a week full of doctors appointments and wont be on the computer much in the next 4 days.

I am not looking for arguments or pointing fingers at anyone but this needs to be unified resolution and discussion not several individual discussions behind closed doors. Time is up it is now public and time to weigh in and or let it go.

Thank you

Well said Doug. We also talked about changing the RL4WD Association to a non-entity RL4WD community lead by those in the 4x4 communities as it is now. This way, we don't lose the social media and web momentum we've built over the last many years. For some reason, some people think that just because the association goes away that all the tools and connections get deleted... that's silly. We are a family, and everyone wants to make sure that we have a place to connect. I'd be willing to keep the website rolling... have way over $100k in time on this and don't want to turn it off if it can be saved.

I'd help as a member of the coalition for WI when I get the new business stable and profitable as time would permit.

Thank you Ryan and all the leaders of RL4WD for what you've done for the 4WD community. What you have accomplished in a few years, bringing in new folks, creating chapters, mapping activities, trail ambassador program, opening areas to ride, etc. is incredible. Appreciate the confidence you place in WC4WD and we will do our best to uphold the level that has been set!

I want to start out by saying Thank You.

I personally may not have the full experience of running and maintaining a 4WD club, but I ran a video game clan/club in my past life for a few years. It was a heck of a challenge to keep things going and can understand how someone can get burned out quickly.

I also want to apologize a head of time, but I'm going to ask some questions over the next few weeks as my brain processes all the information provided. I will try my best not to drive everyone crazy with these questions.

Today's questions...

What is WC4WD and is this an organization that is run by the RL4WD group?

Is there a membership fee for WC4WD or is it included with our RL4WD membership?

Thank you Ryan for the link. Read through the latest post and signed up on the WC4WD website.

If RL4WD is dissolved and the website remains. I;m under the impression that this means we must join one of the club chapter to remain a member, correct?

Also, if we want to join multiple club chapters for whatever reason it is. Does this mean we have to pay chapter fees for each one we join?

Thank you very much for all your hard work, I personally had the opportunity to run a 4x4 club many years ago (it too dissolved) so I know the work involved! I can also sympathize with everyone who worked tirelessly and got burned out.... the failure of willing individuals to step up is perhaps the largest reason many clubs dissolve.... Until our paths cross again, keep it shinny side up :)

  • I’m sad to see this happen but understand why.
  • I truly hope we can keep the umbrella website/social media running as I think it’s a needed center point between the chapters.
  • How will this work with Tigerton/Sinawa and their membership requirement?
  • Thank you Ryan, for all the passion, time, and energy you put into pushing forward with the club, the community, the trails, and the government. You took on a huge amount of work for a very long time.
  • Thank you also to the “unsung hero’s”. I know there have been a lot of people helping unseen in different ways, so thank you too.
  • I’m nervous what this will mean, but we have a lot of seasoned members running new chapters and with WC4WD help hopefully they will all be successful and continue growing and leading.

Hi all, I’m brand new here and only just posted my “Welcome Mat” message so I have no real voice or context here.
I can only say that living in Wisconsin provides little options for rides and, when I got my Jeep last fall, I was disappointed to find this to be the case. I searched for months but only in the last week found this group through a mention on the Tigerton OHV page. While I wish I had known sooner, I’m happy to see it appears there is a club option moving forward.
I can appreciate all of the hard work as I have done similar things in the past, and can imagine the heartbreak and frustration with the decisions that are made.
In any case, good luck and I hope to meet you all in the future.
