Has anyone had any experience with J&L 4wd center in Madison? I've started thinking around some updates for my 4Runner and wanted to find a reputable place that could help with them.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

My brother was dropping me off so I asked politely how much time did they need. He says, "45mins to an hour". I'm like it is 4:15pm now, and you close at 5pm." He says, "yeah?" I said, "well I need it today". "I never said you weren't going to get it today!"

Apparently they don't know how a clock works! But it was rude as hell in my opinion.

They called me 10 minutes later and told me it was done. Besides the person being pretty rude, my 4Runner reeked of cigarette smoke for a few days.

I am new to this. I paid $1,100 for my Bilstien 5100 lift kit to be installed and aligned. I had already bought the parts myself online, but did not have the tools or patience to put them in myself. So the rate was about $100 an hour. Not sure if that is legit or not.

I wouldn't hesitate to use them for "big stuff". The welding work they did on the 2004 Tacoma was well done and they seem to have a lot of the experience with CAP-IT. The smaller the job the more I would shop around. For example, I talked to them about a suspension upgrade on my 2010 FJ cruiser - fox 2.5 front coilovers, new rear lift springs and rear resi-shocks -- they really wanted to use their own suppliers for the suspension so I declined. Went to my local mechanic and he did the install it without a problem - I think J and L likes the bigger more complex work especially if you buy from them but smaller stuff not so much -- plus as you said their shop is one of the most unkempt shops I have seen -- but they are very good and priced well for certain work.  More ...
