I have to admit I'm kind of lost when it comes to the various (current, or soon to be former) 4WD organizations in Wisconsin. I plunked down $75 for a two-year RL4WD membership last year, because it seemed like a very good cause to support. Now it's dissolved? Or I guess it's becoming a for-profit business of some sort? But there are still chapters? I'm confused.

What is the connection to Wisconsin Coalition of Four Wheel Drives? Is that member association I should consider joining and supporting instead?

Your membership is valid to join WC4WD as a premium member of RL4WD per your welcome letter. RL4WD had a non-profit 501 and for-profit C corp as we couldn't do paid lobby work through the 501. The premise of the Association was bound through the universal membership program which was put into place to avoid all these memberships from all the clubs and instead, share these membership fees between the chapters. It failed and chapters made their own memberships anyway for a number of valid reasons.

RL4WD will continue to map trails, seek to open new lands for 4x4, and be a resource to get more access. We're just not sharing a membership with the chapters anymore going forward. Chapters, locations, Trail Ambassadors, WC4WD, are all seemingly honoring the Premium membership through at least the end of the year.

I plan to keep paying the WC4WD fee and I'd seek all VIP members be allowed to join WC4WD to see what they're about. Past that, you'll have to contact Tim Duenkel or @Regan O'Neill# if those things change on their end.

I will not be doing lobby work for free as it takes a huge amount of time and expense. We're raising money through rl4wd to keep things moving on that front.

Hope that helps clear some things up. I'll be making an official post on this topic in the blogs soon, just lettings the dust settle and the new website begin to take shape before sharing. We want to be a resource for multiple clubs in the 4x4 world and with over 100k daily tracked hits here, we hope to help get more people to more 4x4 club events and connect more people to those doing something in the 4x4 world. It's worked great so far, and we'll continue to try and make that work going forward. Once the dust settles I'll also begin hosting rides, classes, and trips again for VIP and Premium members. Your Premium membership is valid here and will also work on the new site. Just because the association part went away doesn't mean rl4wd stops. The site and many of the items were paid for by the product sales, advertising, etc. Processing memberships and such for up to 6 hours a day I just couldn't volunteer that much time anymore for the association, but we're good to go now and are set up for more expansion, lots more mapping, more tours and guides, etc.
