Have a JK or JKU with the Manual Seat Height Adjuster? Does it seem to creep down over time? If so this modification might be the answer to keep you riding tall...

Not being the tallest guy in the world at 5'9" I enjoy having my seat adjuster all the way up. I noticed early on that the seat would creep down by itself after a few days. Paying attention while entering and exiting showed that my rear end would drag across the adjuster lever and lower the seat a little at a time. Once I realized what was happening I started looking for a way to fix the problem.

The issue is that the adjustment lever is clocked at 160 degrees or 20 degrees above level. A flat blade removes the cover and reveals a mounting screw and spur wheel.

After removing the handle I carefully mounted it in a vise while using a socket to push the spur wheel and a second socket to support the plastic. IMPORTANT - The spur wheel had the handle molded around it! It will take an uncomfortable amount of effort to press it out! Support the surrounding plastic with a socket or you will risk breaking the handle!

The spur wheel has a groove about the diameter filled with sheared plastic. Clean off the flakes.

Remount the spur wheel on the seat and align the handle horizontal (shifted two teeth from original in my case).

Mount the handle assembly back in the vise and gently press the spur wheel into its new position. Again I used sockets to press against the metal spur and supported the plastic on the other side.

Reattach the handle and cover for a creep free Jeep!

Shortly after finishing my Door Hanger Project, I found myself in need of some temporary mirrors. Never being a fan of the type that mount in the door hinge and wanting something small and easy to mount had me searching for something outside the box. I stumbled across these nifty looking Amazon Motorcycle Mirrors which started the wheels turning:

    1.jpg

I wasn't sure how I was going to mount them, but that didn't stop me from clicking the "Ship It" button. A few days later, they came in the mail:

My initial reaction was, wow, fully machined metal mirror with a really nice finish! Now I just have to figure out how to mount them. I started with stripping off the unnecessary hardware:

Removed a cowl bolt, added some tape and decided that I liked the location:

I modified the mounting end by cutting the pilot off the post, filed it smooth, tapped the existing hole, cut the head off a spare bolt and installed the stud with some Red Loctite:

Now the post can be turned in until it bottoms on the "A" pillar counterbore:

I really like how this project turned out! Inexpensive, Sleek Looking and Easy to Install.
