GeoCrawls are like poker runs blended with our mapping directory. These events are done over a few weeks, a season or even over a year. Geocrawls are where you go to a location within the map directory, take pictures at that location with your RL4WD and then submit a review with your image to that location within the directory. This acts like a stamp on a poker run sheet but without needing somebody there to stamp it!
Geocrawls are designed as a friendly adventure competition where members raise awareness of the public and private trails, report on said trails, and help us keep trails open in doing so. See a trail that's washed out or needs work? Report it in your GeoCrawl and we'll get to work on getting it fixed!
Geocrawls are usually done between multiple chapters over a large area. They are done over a longer period of time so members can plan trips using the Geocrawl map locations. Said locations are usually trails or overlanding roads, some might be a point if interest or scenic overlook on a trail, others might be a crawl spot waypoint in an inner city, and lastly it could be a sponsoring business.
GeoCrawls are great fun and put an event on trails you can visit. Many of the locations are on public trails or roads, some will be on private trails or lands (available by special event only) so be sure to carefully read each listing to make sure it's available when you want to visit!
GeoCrawls are set up as a fundraising activity to help our non-profit chapters raise money to further the development of more trails. Some GeoCrawl entry sheets may have a registration requirement, some are free and hosted by the RL4WDA solely. The name came from Todd Miller via the Wrangler Riders Facebook group post when Ryan Harden asked what we should call this type of event, Todd came up with a name that fit perfectly!
If you have any questions about geocrawls, post them below and we'll be sure to help you. We've also assigned geocrawls.com to this page for ease of finding the GeoCrawl events.
To be considered for the prize drawing from our sponsors, you need to submit a trail or business review along with a photo.
The winning tiers are:
Grand Prize Winner - Random winner picked from the pool of members who have submitted reviews.
Top Reviewer - The member who reviews the most trails on their profile at the end of the session. This can be tracked here - https://rl4wd.com/trails/top-reviewers
Runner Up Winners - These will be chosen based on the number of prizes we have.
Prizes are awarded in order, we'll post all the prizes on the page here - https://rl4wd.com/GeoCrawls and winners will be able to pick their prize, then we'll announce the next winner. This way winners can pick prizes they want or need for their rig without being stuck with something.
